Before purchasing any diamond, you should always ask to review a copy of its certification document(s) as proof that it has undergone an unbiased, professional examination by a respected independent laboratory. You should never trust a jeweler or dealer’s “word” on the grade of any diamond’s characteristics! For this reason, all of Safari Diamond’s diamonds come with official certification from the world’s finest independent grading organizations, as well as its own special certification of origin and authenticity.
What is a certificate?
A diamond certificate, also called a diamond grading report, diamond dossier®, or diamond quality document, is a report created by a team of gemologists. The diamond is evaluated, measured, and scrutinized using trained eyes, a jeweler’s loupe, a microscope, and other industry tools. A completed certificate includes an analysis of the diamond’s dimensions, clarity, color, polish, symmetry, and other characteristics. Many round diamonds will also include a cut grade on the report.
How are Safari Diamond’s diamonds certified?
Every loose diamond and diamond ring sold by Safari Diamond has been analyzed and graded by either the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), the European Gemological Laboratory based in the United States (EGL-USA), or the Hoge Raad Voor Diamant (The Diamond High Council), best known as HRD located in Antwerp, Belgium. These three laboratories are among the most respected laboratories in the diamond industry, and are known for their consistency and unbiased diamond grading systems. Diamonds that are accompanied by these grading reports are the most highly valued in the industry.
In addition to being graded by either the GIA, EGL-USA or HRD, all Safari Diamond diamonds comes with a personalized Safari Diamond Certification Card. This additional certification provides a second authoritative analysis of your diamond and gives information on its rough and finished diamond size and mine of origin. All diamonds from Safari Diamond mines are also laser-etched along its girdle with its own world-recognized “SD” branding.
Finally, every diamond bought from Safari Diamond comes with its own Journey Documentation, an exclusive dossier detailing your chosen diamond’s unique history as it took its journey from the Earth, across 3 continents to finally reach your hands.
What is the difference between GIA, EGL-USA and HRD certificates?
All three diamond grading organizations are among the most respected laboratories in the diamond industry. These laboratories are highly respected worldwide due to their consistency and their conservative grading standards. There are minor differences in the terms that each lab uses to describe the qualities of the diamonds, but a certificate from either of these laboratories ensures that you have an accurate assessment of your diamond.
