This is the same exact process we use when trading and selling loose diamonds to dealers and our network of jewelers in the worldwide trade (wholesale) market.

How To Price Your Diamond At Safari Diamond

Let’s take a specific example to illustrate how YOU can determine the price of a diamond, at any size, shape, clarity and color grade you would like. At Safari Diamond, you get to custom select every single aspect of your diamond according to your budget and desires. Let’s say you have decided to buy an emerald cut diamond with the following qualities:

• Carat Weight: 0.85 ct
• Color: F
• Clarity: VS1

First, you would make sure you are reading from the “Pear Shaped” sheet as we are dealing with a cut other than round. You would then locate the corresponding carat weight category on the Rapaport Diamond Report™, like the chart below. (Note that the chart below is fictitious and serves as an example only.)

The sample chart above is for diamonds from 0.70ct to 0.89ct. The “Rap Report”, as it is commonly known in the industry, is essentially a collection of many charts similar to the above, with each chart covering a carat weight range.

Note that all prices on the report are quoted on a per carat basis. So, after locating the correct chart on the price list, you look for the corresponding value for 'F' and 'VS1' (very slightly included). The value shows as 44. On the Rapaport®, all prices are shown in the hundreds of U.S. dollars (USD).

Therefore, the diamond you are interested in costs $4,400 USD per carat.

We then need to adjust for the size of your diamond using the following simple calculation: USD $4,400 x 0.85ct = $3,740.

Hence, you have found out that the 0.85ct, 'F' color, VS1 diamond has a Rapaport® price of $3,740 USD on this particular date.

All other things being equal, this should be at the high-end of what you would pay for a diamond of this cut and quality as a wholesaler. While this is a very good measure to base a diamond’s price upon, it is important to note that the “Rap” reports do not take into consideration certain factors such as cut quality, good or poor geometric proportions, florescence, etc, all of which can increase or decrease a stone’s market value, sometimes considerably.
